For almost 2 months I have been working on character simulator that is current and updated. It was going fairly well when I hit a few major problems in some coding that I can't figure how to design. I have looked up and down the Internet looking for something remotely similar to the problem I'm having. (Found Nothing... Shocker right?)I just started messing with flash about 4 months ago so don't think of me of being a great flash writer. At the same time I'm a fast learner.
Just about that time I started writing up my flash some other Ragnarok site presented to the public their version of the character simulator. Theirs is based in a Java Script coding. Let me list the pros and cons of this character simulator.
Pros:
1. Fully up to date. (Has recent classes and gears.)
2. Easy navigation. (You can find everything on one page very viewable for members.)
3. Selection of carts. (Has an option of different cart displayed.)
4. Background Selector. (You have other backgrounds that displayed instead of the blank background.)
5. Saving area. (You are able to save your characters very easily just by copying and pasting the URL at the bottom.)
Cons:
1. Loading time. (Loading time is very slow even on a fast Internet connection.)
2. Different body sprite positions. (There is no animation of the bodies or different posses that can occur.
3. Poor Layout. (The layout of the simulator area is very unappealing.)
4. Color Changer is broken. (They have a clothes color changer but, when used it changes your class to a gunslinger or just wont work for some classes no matter what class you choose.)
This one is well done over all and I'm jealous. hmmm... I'll get over it and make mine better. ^^ (Go Ego!) Well of course that's not just it. Today I find out there is another character simulator out again... Both of these simulators are in big name Ragnarok websites. Where visitors all over the world visit these site's everyday. This site has it's simulator designed in SPR and ACT files. Let me tell you a little about this new simulator with some pros and cons also.
Pros:
1. Fast loading. (self explanatory.)
2. Up to date. (Does have recent classes and head gear.)
3. Character changing. (Characters can rotate and have different position for their sprites.)
4. Reset. (Has a very nice reset button.)
Cons:
1. Layout is poor. (Need a better display system.)
2. Missing colors. (Does not have any color changing at all. For hair or clothes.)
3. Sprite miss placing. (Head gear and heads are not position correctly.)
4. Bugs. (This certain version has lot of bugs and need to be tended to.)
5. Browser. (You can only view this simulator in FireFox or Opera.)
There is not much else to say about these little set backs besides the fact that while writing this post I got the greatest idea on how to fix about half of my problem's in my character simulator. Hopefully I can get it working before the new year starts.
